Oz media praise India

Picture
While a 4-0 loss is being seen as a brave effort from the minnows by their fervent fans back home, there is no dearth of appraisal for the team in the Australian media either. Here are some excerpts from the print and online media down under.

Sydney Morning Herald

"While a gallant India side put up decent fight in their return to top level football, Australia were always in control.."

Herald Sun
"But Australia could have doubled their goal tally if not for the heroics of Indian goalkeeper Subrata Paul..."

"Despite going a goal down, the Indians didn't drop their heads and had a genuine chance to equalise in the 17th minute..."
"It was only the brilliance of Indian keeper Paul that prevented Australia going on a first-half rampage. The 24-year-old gloveman denied Cahill from point-blank range in the 31st minute after the Socceroos star pounced of a deflected effort from Holman that bobbed up on the edge of the six-yard box.Three minutes later, Cahill again brought out the best in Paul, who was at full-stretch in tipping a superb long-distance volley from the Socceroos talisman over the crossbar.More Paul heroics soon after resulted in the gloveman injuring his knee, which perhaps contributed to his failure to deal with a dangerous Emerton cross that led to Australia's third goal in first-half stoppage time."

ABC Online
"Only the reflexes of Indian goalkeeper Subrata Paul denied the Everton marksman in consecutive minutes.First with a flinch that nudged the ball a whisker past the far post. Then a leaping deflection over the cross bar from a searing long shot."

"India sat deep in defence and tried desperately to hold its formation against the mounting pressure. There were moments of enthusiasm with solo ventures down the pitch met by raucous cheering from a partisan crowd of 9,783."

So, It is clear that the Indian goalkeeper has made his mark and for sure he would make it to the big leagues. Also, the Indian team as a whole earned respect for themselves under demanding circumstances. This could be a perfect launch for the next generation of Indian footballers.
